Where to Download Cisco ASA VM Image?




To download Cisco ASA VM image, you need to have a valid Cisco account and a service contract for ASA. You can access the software download page from Cisco Software Website . You need to select the product category (Security), product name (Adaptive Security Appliances (ASA)), and product model (ASA 5500-X Series Firewalls). Then you can choose the image type (Release), version (9.x or later), and file name (asav*.ova or asav*.qcow2). The ova file is for VMware platforms and the qcow2 file is for KVM platforms.


How to Install Cisco ASA VM Image on VMware Workstation?




To install Cisco ASA VM image on VMware Workstation, you need to have VMware Workstation installed on your PC. You can download it from VMware Customer Connect . You also need to have enough disk space, memory, and CPU resources for the ASA VM. The minimum requirements are 8 GB disk space, 4 GB RAM, and 2 CPU cores.


Follow these steps to install Cisco ASA VM image on VMware Workstation:


  • Open VMware Workstation and click File > Open.



  • Browse to the location where you downloaded the Cisco ASA VM image (asav*.ova) and select it.



  • Click Import to start the import process.



  • Review the license agreement and click Accept if you agree.



  • Review the name and location of the ASA VM and click Import to finish the import process.



  • The ASA VM will appear in the left pane of VMware Workstation. Right-click on it and select Settings.



  • Adjust the network settings according to your needs. You can choose between bridged, NAT, or host-only modes. You can also add more network adapters if you need more interfaces for the ASA VM.



  • Click OK to save the settings.



  • Power on the ASA VM by right-clicking on it and selecting Power > Power On.



  • The ASA VM will boot up and display a console window. You can access the CLI of the ASA VM by typing commands in the console window.



How to Install Cisco ASA VM Image on VMware ESXi?




To install Cisco ASA VM image on VMware ESXi, you need to have a VMware ESXi server with enough disk space, memory, and CPU resources for the ASA VM. The minimum requirements are 8 GB disk space, 4 GB RAM, and 2 CPU cores. You also need to have a vSphere Client or a web browser to access the vSphere Web Client.


Follow these steps to install Cisco ASA VM image on VMware ESXi:


  • Login to the vSphere Web Client with your credentials.



  • Select Hosts and Clusters from the left pane and select your ESXi host.



  • Click Actions > Deploy OVF Template.



  • Browse to the location where you downloaded the Cisco ASA VM image (asav*.ova) and select it.



  • Click Next to start the deployment process.



  • Review the details of the OVF template and click Next.
